What it is
A simple, voluntary, agreement that says;
as a parent “I take parenting seriously”
as a parent “I expect to be taken seriously”
as an organisation “we work hard to support parents in
all our dealings with them.”
Why it has been introduced
There are many incidents where parents are placed at a significant
disadvantage in law, such as on-the-spot fines for actions that
are not always directly controllable by parents and by the consequential
disruptions where punitive actions aimed at a child cause major
disruption to a family as a whole.
Parents are not represented in the same way as minority groups
or disadvantaged groups and occasionally find themselves on the
wrong side of the law through no direct action, or inaction, on
their part.
Parents want to declare their resolve to be good parents and to
demonstrate that they take their parental responsibilities seriously.
Parents want reassurance that their efforts are noticed; acknowledged;
recognised and supported.
We believe organisations will want to be able to show their support
of parents in the way that they conduct themselves and in the way
that they deal with parenting issues and relationships.
Who can apply
Any, and all, parents are invited to make this declaration of responsibility.
None have to.
Any, and all, organisations that have dealings with parents are
invited to sign up to this voluntary agreement as a declaration
of intent to support parents in the act of parenting.
Regretfully, this opportunity is currently limited to UK applicants.
